Welcome to Browne Class

Mrs Troupe and Mrs Jones

Welcome to our Summer Term!

This term, our learning will link to our topic ‘One Moment in Time!’ and there is so much to learn about and explore! A lot of our learning this term is linked to the seaside. In Geography we will be using maps to locate seaside towns in the North East of England, we will look at features of seaside towns and make comparisons between those that are nearby, those in other parts of the UK and those around the world. We will extend this learning into our History lessons where we will be learning all about seaside holidays and making comparisons between holidays today, holidays in the recent past and holidays 100 years ago. We will look at how Punch and Judy shows were popular in the past and use this as inspiration for our work on mechanisms in DT to create a moving picture using levers and sliders. In Art we will be examining the work of Andy Warhol and using his ‘Marilyn’ artwork to create out own piece of work using printing skills. In RE we will unpack the question ‘Who is Muslim and how do they live?’ as well as exploring places which are sacred to believers of Islam and Christianity.

In English we will continue our Curious Quests with Noodle and Titch, developing our understanding of prefixes and suffixes, secure use of punctuation and continue to develop our writing stamina. We will continue to encounter new places and new friends to help us along on our adventures. We won’t put too much detail here just in case The Greap is reading this!!

Please see the class newsletter for other information linked to our day-to-day class organisation and more in-depth information about our class curriculum. As always, please get in touch if you have any questions.

Our poor toy characters got frozen in ice! We had to free them as quickly as possible and used different methods to see which was quickest. The hairdryer melted the ice in 20 minutes but the ice wrapped up in furry material had hardly melted at all after 40 minutes!

Celebrating random acts of kindness

We created our own collages based on the artwork ‘All in my mind’ by Ben Giles.

We had lots of fun designing and baking muffins. They were really delicious!

In English the Year 1 children have been working hard to to write two sentences, remembering a capital letter and full stop for each one. Year 2 children have been learning how adverbs can make their writing more interesting for the reader.

In History we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We had lots of fun acting out the story of what happened.

We made fire engines with moving wheels as part of our DT topic.

In Science we worked in groups to create a collage of the seasons.

We took part in the Fundamentals PE Festival to develop our team work and games skills.

Children in Need

We learnt about the importance of teeth hygiene. We practised cleaning a very BIG set of teeth!

Fabulous fun attending the Gymnastics Festival.
